Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has ordered strict measures to control sugar prices.A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the supply and price control of sugar in the country. During the meeting, he directed officials to take strict measures to control sugar prices.According to the report, the meeting was briefed on sugar production, where it was informed that there is currently an adequate stock of sugar in the country. Fair price shops have been set up at the provincial level to sell sugar at affordable rates. Comprehensive measures will be taken to completely eliminate sugar smuggling, and strict action will be taken against smugglers.The provincial chief secretaries briefed the meeting, stating that action against the illegal hoarding of sugar would be ensured, and district-level administrations would work diligently in this regard.While addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister said that providing essential food items at affordable prices to the public is the government's top priority. He highlighted that in recent months, the government took strict action against sugar smuggling, which helped curb the issue. The Prime Minister directed the authorities to take strict measures to control sugar prices and ordered stern action against those involved in hoarding sugar.The Prime Minister directed the formulation of a strategy to ensure the supply of sugar and other essential food items at reasonable prices during Ramadan. He emphasized that the federal and provincial governments must work together to provide essential commodities at affordable rates to the common man.Shehbaz Sharif stated that no negligence would be tolerated regarding price control of sugar and other necessities during Ramadan.The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Industries, Production, and National Food S ecurity Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, and other senior government officials. The chief secretaries of all four provinces also participated in the meeting via video link.
