Lahore: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has expressed concern over Indian atrocities and terrorism in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, saying that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif did not effectively raise his voice on Palestine and the Kashmir issue in his address to the United Nations. Simply referring to Kashmir as the 'jugular vein' and expressing support for Kashmiris through conventional statements does not reflect a concrete position or policy on Kashmir, he deplored.

Addressing a press conference at Mansoorah in Lahore, the Jamaat-e-Islami chief expressed regret that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's speech at the United Nations did not contain a detailed discussion of the Kashmir and Palestine issues. He said that instead of trying to please Trump, the rulers should adopt a clear and unequivocal position against the ongoing brutality by India in occupied Kashmir and by Israel in Palestine.

He said that a large number of the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami in occupied Kashmir has been imprisoned, while their offices and institutions have also been sealed.

In addition, he said the entire Hurriyat leadership, including All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Masarat Alam Butt and senior leaders Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Aasiya Andrabi, remains imprisoned in Indian jails.

He said that a large number of domicile certificates are being issued to non-state residents in an attempt to turn the Muslim majority of Kashmir into a minority, which is a matter of serious concern. He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also failed to mention Yasin Malik and other Kashmiri leaders imprisoned in Indian jails.

The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said that Kashmiris are fighting a struggle for the completion of Pakistan. He said that the Modi government has deployed more than one million troops there to suppress the Kashmiri struggle, and occupied Jammu and Kashmir has been turned into what appears to be a military cantonment.
