Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has taken immediate notice of hike in the salaries of chairman, deputy chairman Senate, speaker and deputy speaker National Assembly (NA).

As per media reports PM Shehbaz Sharif has sought detailed report from chairman Senate and Speaker NA in this respect. The PM will take final decision regarding enhancement in salary in the light of the report.

Sources said PM has taken this action taking into consideration severe public reaction and economic situation of the country.

It is pertinent to mention here government had issued notification regarding 500 percent increase in salary of speaker NA and chairman Senate a day before the presentation of budget.

Now the salary of speaker NA and chairman Senate per month has been increased from Rs 2 lac 5 thousands to Rs 13 lac. This hike in salary will be applicable from January 01, 2025.

On the other hand defence minister and PML-N leader Khawaja Asif has declared the spike in the salaries of NA speaker, Chairman Senate an economic vulgarity.

In his statement on social media he has opposed the increase in salaries and other financial perks and privileges.
