PMDC and Private Medical Colleges Tensions Escalate, Prime Minister Takes Notice

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of rising tensions between the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and private medical colleges, forming a high-level committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

The committee will review PMDC's regulatory role over private medical colleges. It will include the Federal Ministers for Law and Justice, Health, Minister of State for Finance, the Health Ministry Secretary, PMDC President, and a representative from the private medical colleges' association.

The committee will examine concerns raised by the private colleges regarding PMDC's regulatory authority, decentralization of admission policies, regulation of fee structures, and standards for college affiliation/accreditation.

After completing its review, the committee will submit its recommendations to the Prime Minister, paving the way for important developments in the regulation and policy of private medical education in Pakistan.
