Karachi: A poetry reciting session was held at the Faran Club to pay tribute to the daughter of the nation, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and her family.

Presided over by noted poet Anwar Shaoor, the session entitled 'Salam Aafia Mushaira' was arranged by the Aafia Movement and participated by the leading poets of the country including Farasat Rizvi, Akhtar Saeedi, Khalid Moin, Mehmood Ghaznavi, Khalilullah Farooqui, A H Khanzada, Hakim Nasif, Kashif Hussain Ghair, Saleem Fauz, Farukh Izhar, Sahar Ali, Yasmin Yaas, Naheed Azmi, Qazi Danish Siddiqui and Naeemuddin Naeem.

The poets paid a rich tribute to the courage of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. They expressed grave concern over the torture on Dr. Aafia in jail. They also disapproved the silence of the rulers over these atrocities.

The audience lauded the poets for their creative poetry and expressed solidarity with Dr. Aafia.

In her opening remarks, the noted neurophysician of the country and Aafia Movement Chairperson, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, thanked the poets and audience for feeling pain over the plights of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. She said arranging this poetry reciting session was aimed at to raise awareness amongst the masses about the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. She said this case is being reopened in the USA. She requested the audience to raise this issue so that the rulers may also take notice of it. She thanked the management of the Faran Club for excellent arrangements for the Mushaira.
