Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Ameer Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, while addressing a press conference on Monday at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters, alongside Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan and other leaders, said that the Pakistan Peoples Party has become a land-grabbing mafia and that the Sindh government has become the worst example of corruption, incompetence, and plunder.He said the patrons of this system are those who want amendments and legislation of their choice to secure personal exemptions.He stated that Karachi contributes 98 percent of the provincial budget, yet the city and its residents have no one to look after them. The Sindh government has embezzled Rs 3,360 billion belonging to Karachi over the last 15 years, he said.The JI supreme leader further said political narratives about creating new provinces and administrative units are deliberately used to pit people against one another. Meanwhile, MQM and PPP continue their 'mock wrestling match.'Hafiz Naeemur Rehm an questioned MQM's role, asking why the party sided with feudal elites when Sindh's government was taking over Karachi's institutions, powers, and resources. He claimed that during Mustafa Kamal's mayoralty, the clause concerning the historical share of Octroi and Zila Tax (OZT) was abolished.Demanding constitutional protection for empowered city governments, he pointed to Article 140-A, which mandates the transfer of financial, political, and administrative powers to local bodies. He said Bilawal Bhutto considers interference in the 18th Amendment a major issue, yet has no answer as to why the Provincial Finance Commission (PFC) Award has not been issued.Hafiz Naeemur Rehman rejected Punjab's Local Government Act, calling it a black law, and announced protests at all district headquarters on December 7. He criticized the PML-N government, saying it was ruling like 'absolute monarchs' by stripping elected UC chairmen of powers granted by the public mandate. Jamaat-e-Islami's slogan 'Give power to the peo ple' and its 'Badal Do Nizam Tehreek' aims to restore these rights, he said.He added that Jamaat-e-Islami is establishing an international secretariat of Islamic movements in Mansoorah, Lahore. He strongly opposed any move to deploy Pakistan's military to Gaza at the request of Donald Trump, urging Ishaq Dar to categorically announce that Pakistan will not send its troops. He also called for opening Hamas offices in Pakistan.Regarding the tragic death of a child who fell into an open manhole near Nipa Chowrangi, he held Karachi's 'unelected mayor' Murtaza Wahab - also Chairman of the Water and Sewerage Corporation - directly responsible.Speaking at the press conference, Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan expressed deep sorrow over the child's death and condemned the KMC and the Water Corporation. He stated that even 10-12 hours after the incident, no government official visited the site. Despite frantic calls from Jamaat-e-Islami's chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors, neither the AC nor the DC responde d, and even messages to Murtaza Wahab went unanswered. He criticized the prolonged, incomplete work on the BRT Red Line project, saying that despite five years of construction, it still appears years away from completion.He revealed that Jamaat-e-Islami Chairman Riaz Azhar had formally lodged a complaint about the dangerous pit on October 29, but authorities took no action. Karachi's infrastructure, he said, has collapsed - potholes, broken roads, constant accidents - while the Sindh government remains indifferent.Hafiz Naeem added that the Red Line project is endangering public health and lives, with barely 30% of the work completed amid excessive dust and lack of alternate routes. Even if completed, its flawed design will still cause difficulties. He demanded cancellation of the project and full restoration of University Road.He accused the Sindh government of refusing to devolve powers downward, denying funds to towns, and then questioning Jamaat-e-Islami's development work despite its limited resour ces. He said the money used comes from Karachi's taxpayers, not from illegal sources. He praised Dr. Fawad and other Jamaat-e-Islami workers for preventing an attempted illegal occupation of a citizen's home in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. He alleged that PPP has 'a PhD in criminology' and that some lawyers collaborate with land grabbers using forged documents.He reaffirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami will act as a shield for the people of Karachi, has already formed a special cell against land-grabbing, and will lead public resistance against such mafias. He said that across Pakistan, land-grabbing continues - from farmers' lands to illegal societies near Ravi River. Jamaat-e-Islami will represent the oppressed nationwide, he said.Criticizing PML-N, he said it had reduced Lahore to a single town, stripping it of empowered local governance. He said democracy does not exist within most political parties except Jamaat-e-Islami, which holds internal elections. He commended the enthusiastic participation of Karachi and nationwi de supporters in Jamaat-e-Islami's major public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan.He condemned Pakistani leaders for saluting Donald Trump, 'the man who armed Israel to destroy Palestine,' calling it mental slavery. He said Pakistan has historically supported Palestine since 1940, when the Pakistan Resolution was accompanied by a Palestine Resolution. He said sending Pakistani troops to Gaza to 'disarm Palestinians' would be unjust and a betrayal. He emphasized that a free Palestinian state is the only solution, and called the United States 'the world's biggest terrorist.'
