Lahore: Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Ameerul Azeem, has strongly reacted to the statement of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah regarding Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, saying that the chief minister seems to have forgotten that the people of Karachi voted for Jamaat-e-Islami in both the mayoral and general elections. He said that despite public mandate, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) forcibly seized the Karachi mayor's office as well as national and provincial assembly seats through coercion, intimidation, and rigging. 'If such forces are not called occupiers, then what else should they be called?' he questioned. In a statement issued from Mansoorah, Ameerul Azeem urged Murad Ali Shah to focus on the serious problems facing Sindh and Karachi instead of issuing baseless statements. He said that protests and sit-ins are a democratic right of the people, and the PPP has no authority to snatch this right away. He added that the people of Karachi delivered a clear verdict in favor of empowered local governments by participating in record numbers in the 'Jee Nay Do Karachi March'.The JI leader said that Karachiites have lost trust in both the PPP and the MQM and are no longer willing to accept either party. 'The Form-47-installed ruling party has destroyed Karachi,' he said, adding that the PPP has remained in power in Sindh for the past 17 years and has functioned as the establishment's 'A-team'.He demanded that the ruling party present a full account of provincial funds and return all seats won by Jamaat-e-Islami to their rightful representatives. He also called for the removal of what he termed 'Form-47 occupiers' from the national and provincial assemblies.Ameerul Azeem announced that Jamaat-e-Islami will stage a historic sit-in in Karachi on February 14, stressing that the struggle for public rights will continue with full force. He said the 'Change the System' movement launched by Jamaat-e-Islami will persist until its objectives are achieved. He appealed to the peo ple of Karachi to ensure massive participation in the sit-in and stand shoulder to shoulder with Jamaat-e-Islami to safeguard their democratic and constitutional rights.
