Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to promoting regional peace and stability during a meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, who is on an official visit to Pakistan.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister's House, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and other senior government officials.

Welcoming the visiting minister and his delegation, the Prime Minister recalled his recent visit to Tehran to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. He conveyed his respectful regards and best wishes to Supreme Leader His Eminence Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in the Gulf region and urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further destabilize the region. He reiterated that Pakistan would continue to play the role of an honest and sincere mediator and facilitator while remaining firmly committed to regional peace and stability.

Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation and conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Iranian leadership. He said his visit aimed to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.

The Iranian minister also appreciated the mediation efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, which led to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He further thanked the Prime Minister for visiting Tehran to attend the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei.
