Lahore: Punjab government has decided to impose electricity duty on the consumers on using electricity more than 500 KVA electricity.
As per media reports Punjab Finance Amendment Bill -2025 has been approved without sending it from provincial assembly to committee. As per this bill electricity duty will be imposed on industrial and commercial consumers who use electricity more than 500 KVA.
According to text of bill electricity duty will be slapped at the rate of 4 paisas per unit. Industrial and commercial consumers using electricity upto 500 KVA will remain exempted from electricity duty while the institutions having big generators will be brought to tax net.
As per bill approved from Punjab Assembly all domestic consumers will remain fully exempted from electricity duty.
Electricity duty from industrial and commercial consumers of national grid will be received through DISCOs.
Electricity duty from industrial and commercial consumers using private electricity will be received through electric inspector.
Under this bill amendment will be made in Punjab Finance Act 1964. Governor Punjab will give final approval to this bill.
