Purge police of black sheep, demands JI

Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan on Friday strongly condemned the Pakistan People Party government in Sindh and the police department over the rising lawlessness in Karachi. The JI leader highlighted the case of 25-year-old Jibran who reached from overseas to participate in the last rituals of his father and was killed by street criminals while he was offering resistance to them. He added each and every individual in the mega city was vulnerable to deadly crimes because of incompetence and corruption culture in the government. He further said that 5000 crimes were reported alone in the month of June. Quoting some media reports, he said that 3883 people were deprived of bikes, 183 of cars and 1436 of mobile phones on gun points. As a matter of fact, he said, the statistics were underreported as a vast majority of citizens don't have trust in the police department. The JI leader said that the only reason behind the situation was corrupt elements in the government and particularly the police department. On the occasion, he demanded the authorities to purge the police department of black sheep. He asked the government to revive the safe city project and to launch a comprehensive operation against street criminals in the mega city. He vowed that the JI would not let the government put Karachiites at the mercy of street criminals.
