Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notice to ministries of IT, Information, interior and law on the petition in connection with regularization of use of social media by children below 16 years besides seeking reply from PTA and PEMRA.
Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Sarfraz Dogar took up the petition for hearing.
It was requested through the petition to enact legislation for making effective system for verification of age in connection with social media accounts of the children and protecting the children against the harmful effects of social media.
Counsel for the petitioner said in the arguments legislation of different countries was declared international trend for digital protection of children.
Protecting the best interests of the children is constitutional and legal obligation of the state.
The court inquired is there any law in this regard in PEMRA.
The counsel replied no law related to it could be made so far. Law regarding powers for initiation of action against any one on complaint lies with PEMRA.
The court while issuing notice to the respondents sought reply.
