Lahore: Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has termed the constitutional bench's decision on reserved seats as disappointing and a misinterpretation of the Constitution.In a statement issued from Mansoorah, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that the verdict has further strengthened the hybrid system and robbed the people of their rights. He added that the decision has once again raised serious questions about the credibility of the judicial system.The Jamaat chief said that through the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the powerful circles have completely brought the judiciary under their control, and now the rulers will continue to extract favorable verdicts from the courts. He stated that Jamaat-e-Islami had raised a strong and effective voice against the 26th Amendment and had completely rejected it, but some opposition parties, knowingly or unknowingly, became part of it. If the opposition parties had stood firm on their principled stance, the judiciary's credibility might have been preserved, and we wou ld not have witnessed such a situation today.He said that after this decision on reserved seats, it remains to be seen how the government and especially the opposition parties respond - whether they will accept PTI's rightful seats as spoils of war or will they reject them based on moral, principled, and democratic grounds. He remarked that for Pakistan's so-called political parties, democracy is merely a means to serve their own interests. If political parties correct their direction and prioritize democratic values over personal gains, only then can the rule of law and Constitution be established in the country. He emphasized that the people must now move toward peaceful resistance for their rights, and Jamaat-e-Islami is the best platform for this struggle.Meanwhile, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident of tourists drowning in the Swat River and extended condolences to the bereaved families while praying for the forgiveness of the deceased. He criticized the authorities, saying the government continued watching people being swept away on the media, yet failed to take immediate action to save the lives of the children and women. He said that it would have taken just half an hour for a helicopter from Islamabad to reach the tourists, even less time from Peshawar, but the rulers, who arrange helicopters and planes instantly for personal use, did nothing for the public. The ruling elite treats national resources as personal property, while the common man lacks even basic facilities. The rulers have abandoned the people to die without help and have utterly failed to protect them, he mourned.He further stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the past 13 years, and the Swat incident once again exposed its incompetence.Hafiz Naeemur Rehman demanded that all encroachments in tourist areas, especially illegal constructions along rivers and unauthorized hotels, must be eliminated.
