Islamabad: Resistance activities against the Taliban regime have reportedly intensified over the past week, with attacks and clashes reported in several Afghan provinces, putting additional pressure on the Taliban security infrastructure, according to media reports.
The reports said the Afghan Freedom Front (AFF), National Resistance Front (NRF) and Afghan United Front (AUF) carried out targeted attacks and engaged in direct clashes in Baghlan, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Helmand and Kandahar.
According to the reports, Taliban military centres, security checkpoints, positions and other key installations were targeted in the attacks.
On August 16, the NRF reportedly targeted Taliban personnel in Firing district of Baghlan, killing one Taliban member and injuring two others. On August 15, an attack on the Taliban's Seventh Police Zone in Kunduz reportedly killed three Taliban personnel and destroyed a military vehicle.
On August 16, the Afghan Freedom Front reportedly attacked Taliban positions in Zebak, Badakhshan, claiming that six Taliban personnel were killed and eight injured. The AFF further claimed that Taliban forces were forced to retreat from several positions and that some positions and trenches came under the control of the resistance group.
Another clash was reportedly reported in Zebak on August 20. According to the reports, the fighting continued for around three hours and 30 minutes, resulting in six Taliban personnel being killed and at least 10 others injured.
The reports claimed that several attempts by Taliban forces to retake the positions were unsuccessful.
On August 19, an AFF rocket attack reportedly targeted the Taliban governor's office and a security checkpoint in Faizabad, after which clashes continued for around 30 minutes. The reports claimed that four Taliban personnel were killed and five injured.
On August 18, the AUF reportedly carried out an operation in Lashkar Gah, killing four Taliban personnel and destroying a Ranger vehicle.
On August 19, an attack at the entrance of a military centre of the Taliban's 205 Corps in Kandahar reportedly killed five Taliban personnel, injured three others and destroyed a military vehicle.
According to the reported figures, at least 29 Taliban personnel were killed, 28 injured and three vehicles destroyed during the past week.
The reported spread of resistance activities across Baghlan, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Helmand and Kandahar indicates that the reported violence is not confined to a single area.
The reports further claimed that continued attacks, clashes and alleged retreats from positions are raising questions over the Taliban regime's claims of complete control across Afghanistan.
