SC gives time to federal govt to file reply in judges appointment case

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) while giving time to federal government to file reply in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Judges appointment case has adjourned the hearing of the case till April 06.

Chief Minister (CM) Gilgit-Baltistan petition against the appointment of judges in the judiciary of Gilgit-Baltistan came up for hearing before a 2 members bench of SC presided over by Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan Wednesday.

The Additional Attorney General (AAG) Amir Rehman while seeking more time for filing reply in the case took the plea federal government had filed reply with reference to appointment of judges which has been withdrawn. Court should give time and we will file the reply again with more documents.

Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan inquired from Advocate General Gilgit-Baltistan what is the stance of provincial government on judges appointment petition.

Advocate General GB Nazir Ahmad said we agree with the stance of the petitioner. Therefore, we support it.

Later the court adjourned the hearing of the case till April 06 on the request of federal government.

Chief Minister GB Khalid Khurshid has challenged in SC the appointment of judges by Prime Minister in GB judiciary without consultation.
