Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges Approves Amendment, Reviews FIRs and Pending Cases


Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, chaired by Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi, met today to consider key legislative and oversight matters, including amendments to Rule 209 of the Senate Rules, follow-up on FIRs against Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) students, the CDA missing file case, and a privilege motion against Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan.



The meeting was attended by Senators Hafiz Abdul Karim, Dost Ali Jeesar, Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, Saadia Abbasi, while Senator Shahadat Awan participated as the mover.



The Committee unanimously approved the proposed amendment to Rule 209 after receiving a no-objection from the relevant Ministry.



Regarding the FIRs against QAU students, the Vice Chancellor informed the Committee that an application for withdrawal of the FIRs has been submitted and will be processed shortly. The Chairman directed the SP City, Islamabad, to ensure the FIRs are quashed through the appropriate legal forum, emphasizing students’ welfare alongside a disciplined and peaceful academic environment.



On the missing file case related to House No. 622, I-10/4, the Committee noted the matter is sub judice and deferred the agenda for further review.



Concerning the privilege motion against Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, the Committee expressed displeasure over his absence. On the suggestion of the motion’s mover, Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, the agenda was deferred due to the Minister’s non-attendance.
