SHC rejects JI Amir Hafiz Naeem petition against direct election of mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab

Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) has rejected petitions filed by JI Amir Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman against direct election of Karachi mayor Murtaza Wahab.The court has remarked reasons will be issued later.The petitions filed against direct election of mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab came up for hearing before a 2-member bench of SHC presided over by Chief Justice (CJ) SHC Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui Monday.Tariq Mansoor Advocate counsel for the petitioner gave counter arguments.He said what arguments were given by the counsel of respondents start from 2022 with reference to timeline.The CJ SHC remarked what reference you are giving in counter arguments they don't go in your favor.First poll was made for mayor election and then elections were held.Tariq Mansoor advocate said in his arguments it is necessary for election of mayor and deputy mayor that they be elected from elected members.CJ SHC remarked those are also included in these elected members who don't come as elected. They include minorities a nd others.
