Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) has stopped Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) from collecting municipal tax in cantonment areas.

The matter of collection of municipal tax from the residents of Cantonment Board Malir through electricity bills came up for hearing in SHC.

The counsel for the petitioner said during the hearing of the case Malir Cantt is already collecting conservancy tax. KMC has included municipal charges in electricity bills too.

Usman advocate counsel for the petitioner said two institutions are recovering tax simultaneously.

The court ordered K-Electric to stop MUCT through electricity bills from cantonment areas.

The court declared that powers for collecting the municipal tax lie with the cantonment board.
