Islamabad: Social Media Authority (SMA) has been made functional and notification regarding appointment of its chairman and members has been issued.

Senior lawyer Ayyaz Shaukat has been appointed its first chairman.

Interior ministry has issued notification regarding appointment of its chairman and 5 members. The appointment of chairman and five members will be for five years.

Ayyaz Shaukat is performing as advocate general in Islamabad at present. He will assume the responsibility of chairman SMA after Eid ul Fitr.

Any person who is affected by wrong news or information can lodge complaint with this authority. The authority will be empowered to block the relevant material on social media.

The authority will issue order within 24 hours on receipt of the complaint.
