Islamabad: Petition against the ordinance on increasing NAB remand period from 14 days to 40 days has come up for hearing in Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Justice Inam Amin Minhas heard the case.
The court while issuing notice to the respondents has sought reply from them till the first week of April.
During the hearing of the case the counsel Azhar Siddique took the plea this legislation was enacted to keep PTI founder in jail.
It was said in the petition the ordinance on extension in remand is based on ill intent and it has been brought to target one specific person.
It was said in the petition the ordinance regarding extension in remand runs contrary to the constitution and basic human rights. A flagrant violation has been committed of articles 9 and 10-A through this ordinance.
It was further said that this step is against the set legal principles of Supreme Court.
The petitioner requested the court through the petition to nullify the recent presidential ordinance declaring it illegal.
The court while issuing notice to the respondents adjourned the hearing of the case till the first week of April.
