Karachi: Pakistan's Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police , backed by an intelligence agency, killed three suspected militants affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a pre-dawn raid in Karachi's Manghopir neighbourhood on Monday, a senior official said.

The operation was launched on an intelligence tip-off and led to an exchange of fire after the suspects opened fire on law enforcement personnel, said Raja Umar Khattab, a senior CTD official.

'Three militants were killed during encounter,' Khattab told me a while ago, using a term used by security and police officials for Pakistani Taliban or TTP.

The TTP, which has waged a war against the Pakistani state since long, has seen a resurgence in violence following the collapse of peace talks in 2022.
