Karachi: Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi Chief Monem Zafar Khan on Friday announced that the party will hold a massive Gaza March on Shahrah-i-Quaideen at 4:00 PM on October 4 to mark three years of what he termed systematic genocide in Gaza.Addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq, Monem Zafar Khan said that Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman would address the march. He appealed to the citizens of Karachi to turn out in large numbers to express solidarity with the people of Gaza.He said three years of continued Israeli aggression on Gaza were about to complete on Oct 7, but meetings of international bodies, diplomatic statements and human rights appeals had failed to stop the bloodshed."The Gaza Peace Board, the role of US President Trump and the patience of Palestinians are a slap on the face of Muslim rulers," he said.Quoting Gaza's health ministry, he said over 74,000 Palestinians had been martyred and nearly 200,000 wounded. He said in the West Bank too, Palestinians were being evicted and their houses demolished. The resilience of Gazans, he said, had sparked a new wave of activism, particularly in universities and colleges across Europe, where students were questioning their governments' support for Israel.Mr Khan said mobile publicity vans and camps would be set up across the city on Friday and Saturday to mobilise people for the march.Turning to education, the JI leader highlighted serious irregularities and corruption in the conduct of MDCAT in Sindh. He said the education sector in Sindh was in shambles, saying the Pakistan Peoples Party was pursuing a policy of "ignorance for all".For 33,000 students across Sindh, only nine centres were set up, whereas in Peshawar alone 16 centres were established for 16,500 students, he said.In Karachi, he said, there was severe mismanagement at MDCAT centres. The admit card did not mention the start time of the test, and after the test candidates were told they could not leave until they returned the question paper. Female student s fainted in 43-degree heat and juice was served after four hours, he said. After JI raised the issue, the PMDC removed from its notification the clause about taking back the question paper and shifted the entire responsibility to the testing authority, he said."If the question paper was given to students last year, why was it taken back this year?" he asked. He questioned the role of SIBA Testing Authority, calling it "a stick and pocket watch in the hands of PPP" that could produce results at will."What is merit? In 2025, the top three positions in MDCAT were secured by Karachi students and most of the top ten were also from Karachi, but on whose behest results have been compiled in 2026?" he asked. He highlighted that boards in Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Nawabshah and Larkana showed around 80pc pass percentage, but when NED University conducted its admission test this year, the success ratio of Sukkur Board was 35pc, Larkana 36pc, Nawabshah 42pc, Mirpurkhas 40pc, while Karachi Board's success ratio was 79. 9pc.Citing figures, he said enrolment in schools in Larkana, Dadu, Sanghar and Khairpur had dropped to 33pc, 63pc of schools had no drinking water, 32pc were without electricity, 75pc had no boundary walls, 51pc had no toilets, and the number of shelter-less schools had risen from 4,500 last year to 5,000.He asked Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho to explain SIBA's performance and Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal whether the MDCAT business would continue. He also criticised the Sindh government over the BRT Red Line project. He said the transport minister was walking on a red carpet on University Road while drug addicts under PPP patronage were stealing iron rods from underpasses and flyovers. He said a worker had died a day ago after a structure collapsed on the Red Line, and 14 people had so far died or been injured during its construction. The project cost had escalated from Rs79bn to Rs103bn and had made life miserable for millions, he said, asking the entire PPP cabinet to give a final dea dline for its completion and to stop "plunder".On the killing of Pakistani citizens by pirates in Somalia, he said families of the victims were still unaware when the bodies would be brought home. He demanded the government bring back the bodies and ensure treatment for the injured.JI leaders Muslim Pervez, Taufiquddin Siddiqui, MPA Mohammad Farooq, Zahid Askari and others flanked Monem Zafar at the presser.
