Tik tok setting in deterioration in society: PHC moved for imposition of ban on tik tok

Peshawar: Peshawar High Court (PHC) has been moved for imposition of ban on tik tok saying Tik tok is generating deterioration in the society. Peshawar High Court (PHC) bench comprising Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Farrukh Jamshed took up for hearing the petition seeking court's orders for imposition of ban on Tik tok.

Barrister Babar Shahzad counsel for the petitioner took the plea vulgar videos are uploaded on tik tok which is generating deterioration in the society.

The counsel for the petitioner told the court that court had sought report from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) with reference to Firewall.

Jahanzeb Mahsood counsel for PTA told the court the requisite report has been filed.

Counsel for PTA took the plea that system of tik tok and other social media platforms is such that if some subscriber watches a film of specific nature them more material of the same nature continues to come before him .

He said the petitioner is talking of controlling specific material. However blocking specific material is very difficult job.

Counsel for the PTA told the court authority is working in this regard and several accounts have been blocked too.

He said the account is blocked about which the complaint is received.

Justice Ejaz Anwar remarked if there is some political post and government wants to block it then it is blocked immediately. Then as to why material of such nature cannot be controlled.

The counsel told the court a separate institution is being set up to control social media.

The counsel told the court Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority (SMPRA) has been set up now and this institution sees such matters.

The counsel for the petitioner took the plea if government does not control tik tok then people will come out against it. Therefore, reply be sought from authority as well.

The court while accepting the plea of the petitioner sought report from SMPRA besides further adjourning the hearing of the case.
