Islamabad: A U.S. Congressional delegation comprising Representative Ryan Zinke and Representative Michael Baumgartner called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House on Tuesday, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-United States relations.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch and U.S. Charg© d’Affaires Natalie Baker were also present during the meeting.
Welcoming the visiting Congressmen, the Prime Minister described their visit as an important step towards further enhancing bilateral relations. He congratulated the American people on the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence and conveyed his warm wishes to U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Prime Minister recalled President Trump’s intervention that led to the cessation of hostilities and ceasefire between Pakistan and India in May 2025, stating that the initiative helped prevent a wider conflict and save hundreds of millions of lives.
Highlighting future cooperation, the Prime Minister said Pakistan was keen to expand collaboration with the United States in trade, investment, agriculture, information technology, mines and minerals, and the energy sector.
The visiting Congressmen thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality extended to them and noted that President Trump enjoyed excellent relations with the Pakistani leadership, which they said was contributing to stronger bilateral ties. They also appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace.
Both sides agreed to increase the number and frequency of visits by U.S. Congressional delegations to Pakistan as well as parliamentary delegations from Pakistan to the United States.
