Rawalpindi:United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS and CDF), at General Headquarters (GHQ) here on Wednesday.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, the prevailing regional security environment and the United Nations' role in promoting international peace and security were discussed.
The two sides exchanged views on regional stability, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, India's decision to keep the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance and terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.
Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to international peace and highlighted the country's contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.
He also lauded the role of the United Nations under the leadership of Secretary-General António Guterres in promoting peace, stability and humanitarian cooperation.
The UN Secretary-General paid tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of Pakistan and its Armed Forces in the war against terrorism and UN peacekeeping missions.
He acknowledged Pakistan's continued commitment to international peace and security and particularly appreciated its efforts towards the peaceful resolution of regional conflicts.
