Yousuf Raza Gilani underlines importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting regional peace, understanding & cooperation

Islamabad: Acting President of Pakistan and Founding Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference (ISC), Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, held separate telephone conversations with the Speaker of Malaysia's lower house, Tan Sri Dato' Dr Johari Abdul, and the President of the Dewan Negara, Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.

Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani extended invitations to both leaders to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference, being hosted by the Senate of Pakistan in Islamabad from 10-12 November 2025.

During the discussions, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani underlined the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting regional peace, understanding, and cooperation. He appreciated Malaysia's steadfast friendship with Pakistan and its constructive role in fostering inter-parliamentary ties.

Both Malaysian leaders welcomed the invitation and expressed their keenness to further deepen collaboration between the parliaments of Pakistan and Malaysia.

Meanwhile Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, met with Lord Shafaq Mohammad of Tinsley, Member of the House of Lords, former Member of the European Parliament Barrister Tanveer Hussain, and Chaudhary Mehboob Hussain at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday.

During the meeting, matters concerning the Pakistani community in the United Kingdom, the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in flood-affected areas of AJK were discussed.

Lord Shafaq Mohammad informed Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani that he had raised the issue of India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty in the House of Lords.

The Acting President appreciated the delegation's efforts to highlight issues of national concern and their continued support for the Pakistani community abroad.
