Govt believes in press freedom, says KP CM

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Chief Minister Mehmood Khan said Saturday that government believed in freedom of press, welcomed positive and constructive criticism.

Addressing swearing in ceremony of newly elected cabinet of Swat Press Club and Swat Union of Journalists, Mehmood Khan said that media must point out weaknesses and shortcomings from the government.

He urged the journalist community to provide positive and constructive criticism as well as highlight the good deeds of the government and public welfare measures for public awareness.

Chief Minister said Swat was most affected by unrest but its people bravely faced difficult conditions, including civilians, political leaders and security forces personnel in Swat. Journalists also made great sacrifices and many journalists were martyred and as a result of all these sacrifices peace and order has been established in the area.

The Chief Minister said that future of Malakand Division is linked to tourism and the present government took many steps under a comprehensive strategy to provide employment opportunities to natives by making full use of tourism opportunities in Malakand and Hazara divisions.
