Lahore: The second phase of the Chief Minister's E-Bike Scheme has been launched on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, with 432,000 students registering for the scheme within just two days.

According to Transport Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, applications from 265,000 students are currently being submitted, while processing of more than 108,000 applications has already been completed.

Students can apply for the Chief Minister Electric Bike Scheme through the official portal until October 4.

Applicants are required to have a Punjab domicile or CNIC and must be regular students of public or private degree colleges or universities recognized by the Higher Education Commission.

The applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess either a learner's permit or a motorcycle driving licence.

Under the scheme, only one student per family will be eligible to receive an electric bike.

The Punjab government has waived the down payment for students and will bear the interest and insurance costs. Students receiving an electric bike will pay a monthly instalment of Rs3,028.

The government will also provide a helmet and safety rod free of cost with each bike, while students will receive two days of training on the use of the electric bikes.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities to ensure delivery of the electric bikes within six weeks after completion of the application process.
