8 volunteers die being buried in mudslide in Gilgit

Gilgit: As many as 8 local volunteers are reported to have died being buried under a massive landslide while restoring Danyor Nullah in Gilgit.

According to police the volunteers were working to restore flood damaged Danyor Nullah when land slide over took them. Several others were also buried in landsliding.

According to hospital sources 8 local volunteers died being buried under land sliding while several others are still feared to be buried under land sliding.

3 injured persons are under treatment in hospital while locals are continuing rescue operation.

On the other hand emergency has been imposed in hospitals.

Chief Minister (CM) G.B has condoled with the bereaved families of victims of incident.

He said family members of those killed in the incident will paid compensation under government policy. Better medical facilities will be provided to the injured persons.

CM GB has ordered to accelerate the pace of Rescue operation. Home secretary and DGGBDMA have been directed to take immediate steps.

Spokesperson of provincial government said that water flow in different nullahs has surged due to glaciers melting. Due to it the nullah was flooded. Thos damaged land of nearby areas.
