JKSDMI hosts dinner reception in honour of Sheffield MP Abtisam Mohamed

Sheffield: The Jammu Kashmir Self Determination Movement International (JKSDMI), led by its Founding Chairman Raja Najabat Hussain Sitara-i-Pakistan, organised a special dinner reception on Sunday, 10th August, in honour of Sheffield Central MP Abtisam Mohamed, a Member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee of the British Parliament.The event was attended by prominent guests including President Youth Council Pakistan Muhammad Shehzad Khan, Raja Shaukat Khaliq Advocate (Former Advisor PM AJK), Sardar Abdur Rahman Khan (Patron JKSDMI), Zeshan Araf (Chairman JKSDMI Youth Wing), Professor Dr Tamoor Shafiq (Secretary General, International Lobby on Kashmir), Raja Khalid Khaliq (President, Azad Kashmir Overseas Welfare Council UK), and local Councillor Nighat Basharat.During the reception, the JKSDMI team briefed the MP on the latest situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) following the events of 5th August 2019, the recent tensions between India and Pakistan, and the organisation's upcoming activities across the UK, Europe, Pakistan, and Azad Kashmir.Raja Najabat Hussain expressed his gratitude to Abtisam Mohamed for her active participation in Kashmir-related activities at the House of Commons and extended an invitation for her to visit both sides of the Line of Control to witness the ground realities and meet the affected communities.Muhammad Shehzad Khan shared insights on the role of young people in Pakistan and Kashmir, highlighting the work of his organisation and JKSDMI. Sardar Abdur Rahman Khan spoke on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on Kashmir, criticising the UNSC for its failure to implement them. Raja Shaukat Khaliq raised concerns about ongoing human rights violations in IIOJK and urged the MP to take up the matter with the British Government. Zeshan Araf called on the MP to highlight the Kashmir issue within the Foreign Affairs Select Committee and seek a special report on human rights abuses in the region.In her remarks, MP Abtisam Mohamed re called meeting the JKSDMI delegation during her election campaign and reaffirmed her commitment to the cause. She noted her consistent participation in JKSDMI and All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Kashmir events, including meetings with visiting delegations from Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. She pledged to continue raising the issue with Ministers and in Parliament, and to join JKSDMI activities in Sheffield, London, and Liverpool, including during the Labour Party Annual Conference.As a mark of appreciation, Sardar Abdur Rahman Khan and Muhammad Shehzad Khan presented an award to MP Abtisam Mohamed for her support to the Kashmir cause. Raja Najabat Hussain also presented a JKSDMI shield to Councillor Nighat Basharat for her service to the community and advocacy on Kashmir.Councillor Nighat Basharat thanked the JKSDMI leadership for the honour and pledged her continued support for the Kashmir cause both in Sheffield and across the UK.
