9 million women included in BISP: Faisal Kareem Kundi

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of state Faisal Kareem Kundi said 9 million women have been included in Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

0.7% women included in nutrition program. 700 transgender are also included in program, told the minister of state.

He said earlier money was given near post offices but from now it will be transferred through banks. Now direct accounts of BISP will be made open in banks, project has been inaugurated.

He said by that time account can be opened in Alflah Bank, National Bank, and JS bank. These accounts will be opened in banks registered in State Bank of Pakistan. Pilot project to open women accounts in seven districts have been inaugurated. Special cards will be given to 9 million beneficiary women.

He expressed these views in press conference in Islamabad and said 15 years have been completed to BISP. Program was launched to put women on their feet, he presented 15 years report of program.

Minister also told that 92000 students will be awarded with scholarship program.

Door-to-Door survey of BISP started in which 5 vans will be used which we are getting and work started to reopen 0.9 million cards which has been stopped in previous government.

He said Benazir thought about poor women before 2008 election and still our journey is underway, all international financial institutions appreciate this program.

Attempt was made to change the name and end this program but they failed to pull out Benazir name from the hearts of people, women were given funds quarterly and other funds are being given under this program.
