A 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolts Islamabad, other parts of country

Islamabad: A 5.5 magnitude earthquake has struck Islamabad and several areas of Punjab , KP causing panic among the people.

People came out of their homes reciting Kalima Tayyaba.

Tremors of quake were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding areas.

According to the Seismological Centre magnitude of earth quake was measured 5.5 on rector scale.

The quake struck at 12.30 noon time.

In Punjab, tremors were felt in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Mianwali, Sangla Hill, Chakwal, Hafizabad, Shiekhupura, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and other cities.

Tremors of quake were felt in Swabi, Haripur, Abbottabad, Swat, Malakand, Mardan, Lakki Marwat and other cities of KP.

The epicentre was located 60 kilometres northwest of Rawalpindi, at latitude 33.90 N and longitude 72.66 E.
