Ensuring judicial accessibility: SC remains operational during winter session

Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan remained operational during its winter session, with benches functioning from December 18 to December 31,2025 at the Principal Seat, Islamabad, and Branch Registries at Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta.

During the interim session even, cases were regularly instituted, fixed, and decided at the principal seat and all registries. In total, 646 cases were instituted, 672 cases were taken up for hearing, and 419 cases were disposed of nationwide, indicating that court business remained active notwithstanding its vacation.

Benches dealt with urgent and scheduled matters in accordance with established procedures. Registry offices continued to provide necessary administrative support, enabling listings, hearings, and pronouncement of orders to proceed without interruption.

During the specified period, 646 cases were instituted, 672 cases were scheduled for hearing, and 419 cases were disposed of nationwide, reflecting continuity in judicial functioning and sustained adjudicatory output in December.

A review of data from the corresponding period in recent years shows that judicial output has remained consistent throughout. While 181 cases were disposed of in 2023 and 468 cases in 2024, 419 cases were disposed of in December 2025, reflecting steady handling of judicial workload during winter vacation.

The Supreme Court's functioning during the winter recess reaffirms its commitment to the uninterrupted administration of justice, effective case management, and institutional responsibility, ensuring that judicial work continues even beyond regular court calendars.
