Islamabad: The Prime Minister's Youth Programme (PMYP) welcomes the approval of Pakistan's first-ever National E-sports Policy by the Federal Cabinet, marking a historic milestone in advancing Pakistan's digital economy and creating new opportunities for the country's youth.
Developed under the guidance of the Pakistan E-sports Task Force, constituted by the Prime Minister and chaired by the Chairman Prime Minister's Youth Programme, and informed by early support and international best practices shared by the British E-sports Federation and the Commonwealth Secretariat during its initial stages, the policy establishes a comprehensive national framework to formally recognize and develop E-sports as a professional, educational, and economic sector in Pakistan.
The National E-sports Policy aims to build a modern, inclusive, and internationally competitive E-sports ecosystem through collaboration among government institutions, industry, academia, telecom operators, game publishers, and professional players. The policy focuses on strengthening digital and institutional infrastructure, establishing the Esports Federation of Pakistan, creating structured competitive pathways, and promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital skills development. It also encourages education in game development, animation, visual effects (VFX), and other emerging technologies while promoting responsible gaming practices and safeguarding youth wellbeing.
The policy further envisions positioning Pakistan as a leading regional hub for E-sports by providing a robust governance framework, expanding infrastructure, promoting youth participation, and supporting the growth of the gaming industry. Strategic engagement with international partners, particularly the British E-sports Federation and the Commonwealth Secretariat, has helped incorporate global best practices to ensure sustainable growth and international competitiveness.
The Prime Minister's Youth Programme remains committed to empowering young Pakistanis through innovation, technology, and emerging digital opportunities. The approval of the National E-sports Policy represents a significant step towards creating new avenues for skills development, employment, entrepreneurship, and global recognition, while positioning Pakistan as a credible regional leader in the rapidly growing global E-sports ecosystem.
