Islamabad: The government has assured that fuel supply across the country remains stable despite ongoing volatility in global energy markets, as a high-level meeting of the Committee to Monitor Petrol Prices reviewed the situation under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
The meeting was attended by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, National Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, along with senior officials.
Officials informed the committee that petroleum stocks are sufficient, with diesel reserves covering around 24 days and petrol stocks maintained at comfortable levels due to steady imports and refinery output.
The Petroleum Division briefed that a crude oil cargo has already arrived while another vessel is expected at Karachi shortly. Additional shipments are in transit, and import plans for March and April are being actively managed to strengthen reserves.
The committee noted that global oil markets remain tight, with rising benchmark prices and cargo premiums due to regional uncertainties. Increasing import costs and larger Letters of Credit (LCs) were also discussed, with emphasis on improved coordination between banks and importers.
The Finance Minister directed that the matter be taken up with the State Bank of Pakistan and the Pakistan Banks' Association to facilitate financing, including consortium-based arrangements where necessary.
The committee also observed increased domestic demand and directed authorities to prevent hoarding and ensure smooth distribution. Provincial administrations were instructed to intensify monitoring and enforcement.
Reviewing preparations for the upcoming Eid holidays and harvesting season, the committee expressed confidence that Oil Marketing Companies would maintain uninterrupted supply.
The meeting also reviewed the development of a digital dashboard for real-time monitoring of petroleum stocks and supply conditions.
The Finance Minister reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply, maintaining market stability, and safeguarding national energy security amid global uncertainties.
