Riyadh: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has recalled the resolution adopted by the United Nations Commission on India and Pakistan on 5 January 1949, which affirmed the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to self-determination through a free and fair referendum conducted under the supervision of the United Nations.According to the statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the Anniversary of the United Nations Commission on India and Pakistan Resolution of 5 January 1949, this resolution, together with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, continues to constitute the legal framework for the settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.On this occasion, the General Secretariat reaffirms its full solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and calls for respect for the internationally recognized status of Jammu and Kashmir and for the reversal of all unilateral measures taken on 5 Augu st 2019 and thereafter, which are contrary to international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.The General Secretariat stresses the responsibility of the international community, in particular the United Nations, to ensure the implementation of its resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir and the final settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.
