Islamabad: Federal government has decided not to import wheat due to flood situation in the country.
As per media reports the 8th meeting of Gandam Board was held under federal minister for National food security and research Rana Tanvir Hussain Thursday.
The demand and supply of wheat and availability of agricultural commodities for Rabi season were reviewed in the meeting.
During the meeting the federal government decided not to import wheat.
Federal minister Rana Tanvir Hussain said the existing wheat reservoirs are sufficient to meet country’s demand. Pakistan will not import wheat during the present situation. Availability of wheat in the country is 33.47 million metric tons while national demand is 33.58 million tons. Minor difference is not alarming.
The prices of fertilizers are being controlled sternly, he added. Steps at provincial level can create harassment in market.
