Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan supreme leader Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has held the rules responsible for soaring inflation, water shortages, electricity and gas load-shedding, and deficiencies in education, healthcare, transport and sewerage services and said that the ruling elite and the people belonged to two separate universes.Addressing participants at JI membership camps set up at Mominabad Chowk and Dua Chowk in Orangi Town and Metroville as part of the party's nationwide membership drive, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that the multiple civic crises were not the destiny of the people but imposed by the country's rulers. He said that the time had come to stop what he described as 'oppressive and anti-people rulers'. 'If the people, particularly the youth, do not become a barrier to these rulers, they will continue to burden citizens and deepen their problems,' he said.He warned that if fuel prices were not reduced and the people were not given tangible relief, JI would launch a protest mov ement and could announce a wheel-jam strike.Referring to the local government elections, he said that the public mandate had been 'stolen' across Karachi, including in Orangi Town, and said that JI had been deprived of positions it had legitimately won. He said the party had consistently raised its voice against issues faced by residents, including difficulties in obtaining national identity cards and what he termed injustices by utility providers.Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said Karachi belonged to people from all linguistic and ethnic backgrounds and not to any single community. He maintained that residents across the city were suffering due to the incompetence, poor governance and weak performance of the Sindh government and the city administration. He said Karachi residents continued to face acute water shortages, deteriorating roads and rising fuel costs, while inflation was pushing low- and middle-income households into greater hardship. He said that excessive taxation on petroleum products and the influe nce of sugar and flour cartels were worsening public difficulties. He urged young people to join JI and support efforts to establish a system based on justice and accountability. He highlighted the party's Bano Qabil programme, which offers free information technology courses, and announced plans to establish additional campuses in Orangi Town. The JI leader said that if given the opportunity, JI would work towards introducing a uniform education system across Pakistan and ensuring access to quality education. He called on voters to support the party in future elections and to safeguard their mandate.JI District West Ameer Mudassar Hussain Ansari and JI District West Site Ameer Dr Noorul Haq also addressed the participants.Hafiz Naeemur Rehman received a warm welcome upon his arrival in Metroville and Orangi Town, where supporters showered flower petals and escorted him in a procession to the membership camps. During the visit, he personally enrolled new members and appreciated party workers for their e fforts in expanding the membership campaign.
