Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday to take stock of the availability of sugar across the country and ensure price stability for consumers.
The Ministry of National Food Security and Research, in coordination with provincial food departments, briefed the Committee on current sugar stocks, production projections, and market price trends.
After a thorough review of the data presented on provincial and national sugar reserves, the Committee expressed satisfaction over the overall availability and supply position.
Speaking on the occasion, Ishaq Dar reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the uninterrupted supply of sugar at affordable prices. He stressed that the government will adopt a zero-tolerance policy against hoarding, speculation, and artificial price hikes.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Member FBR, and senior federal and provincial officials.
Meanwhile Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting regarding the improvement of port connectivity on Saturday.
Secretary Maritime Affairs gave a detailed briefing to the Committee regarding the current situation of Pakistani ports and their utilization capacity.
Ishaq Dar emphasized that the geographical location of Pakistan is an asset which needs to be explored. The country lies at the crossroads of Central, South and West Asia. By improving connectivity, the country could get maximum economic benefits.
The Committee reviewed measures for the development and enhancement of the efficiency and competitiveness of Pakistan's ports. Discussions also focused on improving port connectivity, streamlining operational processes, strengthening inter-agency coordination, facilitating trade and logistics, and advancing reforms to position Pakistan's ports as efficient regional trade gateways.
The meeting was attended by the Ministers for Law and Justice and Maritime Affairs, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Maritime Affairs, DG NLC, Chairman of the Karachi Port Authority, and senior officials from relevant departments.
Meanwhile Ishaq Dar chaired an Inter-Ministerial meeting to review Pakistan's efforts to enhance economic diplomacy.
Ishaq Dar emphasised the importance of intensifying efforts at the international and regional levels to promote Pakistan's economy, including through enhanced compliance with international standards and obligations.
DPM/FM reaffirmed the government's commitment to sustainable economic stabilization and instructed all stakeholders to intensify their efforts in this regard.
The meeting was attended by SAPM Tariq Bajwa, the Secretaries of Foreign Affairs and the Cabinet Division, and senior officials from relevant departments.
