Lahore: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has strongly criticised the sale of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), saying those who ruined the national flag carrier are now celebrating its privatisation instead of being held accountable. In a statement, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said PIA was once a prestigious and exemplary institution, a source of pride for Pakistan, and had even supported several international airlines. 'It is unfortunate that the same people who destroyed this great institution through incompetence, worst governance practices, political appointments and flawed administrative decisions are now selling it for a pittance and celebrating the move,' he remarked.Reacting to the sale of PIA on social media platform X, the JI chief questioned whether those responsible for the airline's decline would ever be identified and punished. He said the pattern of first crippling profitable national institutions and then selling them off while celebrating reflects the worst mindse t of the ruling elite.Hafiz Naeemur Rehman stressed that alongside the Privatisation Commission, a separate fact-finding commission should be established to identify all individuals and roles involved in the destruction of PIA and other profitable national institutions. He said such actions had caused losses worth trillions of rupees to Pakistan and severely damaged the country's national prestige.
