Kenyan police presents ‘new version’ of Arshad Sharif’s death mystery

NAIROBI / ISLAMABAD: The Kenyan Police on Wednesday presented a ‘new version’ of slain Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif’s death, who was allegedly shot dead earlier in the African country.

The Kenyan police in its initial statement had said that Arshad Sharif was killed by a cop because of a ‘mistaken identity’. In its official statement, the Kenyan police had expressed ‘deep regret’ over the incident which took Pakistan’s one of the most prominent investigative journalist’s life.

However, the Kenyan media on Wednesday reported another statement by the police, reportedly saying that Arshad Sharif was killed during an alleged ‘exchange of fire’. According to this police stance, someone fired at police party from a car at outskirts near capital Nairobi. The police retaliated as one of its cops was injured and resultantly, the Pakistani journalist was shot dead.

Earlier, the Kenyan police had claimed that Arshad Sharif was shot dead by a police party as his (Arshad’s) car had allegedly breached a road blockage setup by the police to arrest some child kidnappers.
