KP Wildlife Conservation: Legal Reforms and Institutional Strengthening Urged

Peshawar: A meeting on wildlife conservation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held under Secretary Junaid Khan, with Chief Conservator Dr. Mohsin Farooq briefing on achievements, challenges, and future directions.

The meeting highlighted KP's exceptional biodiversity, including the world's largest surviving populations of Kashmir Markhor and Western Tragopan. Proposed amendments to the KP Wildlife and Biodiversity Act, 2015, and allied rules were discussed to strengthen legal frameworks, governance, and enforcement. Secretary Junaid Khan assured government support, establishment of a Wildlife Development Fund, and timely submission of amendments to the KP Law Department, emphasizing community participation and sustainable financing to enhance conservation outcomes.
