Karachi: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Monem Zafar Khan on Monday inaugurated a large-scale development project involving the construction of 1,000 new roads and streets in Model Colony Town, reiterating his party's commitment to public service and municipal improvement.Speaking to media representatives during the inauguration ceremony, accompanied by Airport District Ameer Mohammad Ashraf and Model Colony Town Vice Chairman Faisal Basit, Monem Zafar said that despite challenging circumstances, JI's elected representatives had worked diligently to deliver tangible results. He emphasised that quality, timely completion and transparency remained central to the initiative. He stated that 44 kilometres of roads and streets had already been completed in the town, adding that the party's performance across its nine administered towns stood in stark contrast to that of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). 'The PPP cannot present even a single town comparable to those managed by JI,' he said, criticising what h e described as corruption and mismanagement under the provincial government.Monem Zafar further highlighted that in the past two and a half years, JI had restored 236 parks, installed 142,000 streetlights, introduced open-air gyms and roadside greenery projects, and upgraded 69 government schools into model institutions across Karachi. On the occasion, he criticised delays in key water supply schemes, alleging that inefficiencies had hindered progress on projects such as K-IV, and warned that Karachi residents might continue to face water shortages in the coming years.JI leader Muhammad Ashraf vowed to continue the journey of development. He said that the JI leadership in the nine towns delivered beyond the limits, instead of just condemning what the PPP did to Karachi and Karachiites.Vice Chairman Faisal Basit, while briefing the media, said that work on a broader network of 118 kilometres of roads was progressing rapidly, with a target of completing 162 kilometres by the end of the year. He added tha t substantial improvements had also been made in water supply and sewerage systems, alongside the installation of over 7,000 streetlights and the restoration of nine parks.
