Islamabad: On the eve of Kashmir Martyrs' Day, Mushaal Hussein Mullick, Chairperson of the Peace and Culture Organisation, former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Human Rights and Women Empowerment, and wife of illegally incarcerated Kashmiri Hurriyat Leader JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik, paid glowing tribute to the martyrs of July 13, 1931, and to all those who have laid down their lives in the struggle for the people of Jammu and Kashmir's right to self-determination.
Mushaal Hussein Mullick said that July 13 remains a defining chapter in the history of Kashmir, symbolizing extraordinary courage, faith, and sacrifice. She recalled that on July 13, 1931, outside Srinagar Central Jail, 22 unarmed Kashmiris embraced martyrdom one after another while completing the call to prayer after Dogra forces opened fire. Their sacrifice, she said, ignited a movement that continues to inspire generations of Kashmiris.
She stated that the spirit of the martyrs lives on in every Kashmiri who continues to strive peacefully for justice, dignity, and the internationally recognized right to self-determination. She emphasized that despite decades of repression, arbitrary detentions, restrictions on civil liberties, and the continued incarceration of Kashmiri political leaders, the resolve of the Kashmiri people remains unshaken.
Mushaal Mullick said the sacrifices made from the era of Dogra rule to the present day can never be erased from history. She stressed that lasting peace in South Asia requires a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
She urged the United Nations, the international community, and global human rights organizations to intensify their efforts to safeguard the fundamental rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, ensure accountability for human rights violations, and support meaningful steps toward a peaceful resolution of the longstanding dispute.
Mushaal Hussein Mullick reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the martyrs would never be forgotten and pledged to continue raising the voice of the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir through peaceful, democratic, legal, and diplomatic means until they are able to exercise their right to self determination.
