Islamabad: The Pakistan-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group, chaired by Senator Rubina Qaim Khani, met today at the Parliament House to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral relations. The meeting was attended by H.E. Ms. Eleni Pourchi, Ambassador of Greece to Pakistan, Senator Fawzia Arshad, and senior officials from the Senate Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The session began with a warm exchange reaffirming the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Greece. Senator Rubina Qaim Khani welcomed the Ambassador and emphasized the importance of enhanced parliamentary exchanges, recalling that the last high-level parliamentary visit took place in 2006. She also highlighted the constructive role of the Pakistani diaspora in Greece in fostering bilateral ties.
The delegation discussed shared challenges, including irregular migration, and underscored the need for cooperative approaches to ensure legal and safe employment avenues. Ambassador Pourchi reiterated Greece's commitment to bilateral cooperation and adherence to international law, emphasizing collaboration in national security, migration management, climate change, education, and visa facilitation.
Senator Fawzia Arshad proposed expanded cooperation in agriculture, digital innovation, and education, highlighting opportunities in olive cultivation and related industries in Pakistan's Potohar region. Discussions also addressed humanitarian and regional issues, including the peaceful resolution of long-standing disputes such as Kashmir, and emphasized cooperation in climate resilience and disaster management.
Both sides recognized the potential to expand trade and investment, particularly in agriculture, food processing, and technical collaboration, and encouraged greater engagement between business communities. Senator Rubina Qaim Khani reiterated Pakistan's commitment to dialogue and peaceful settlement of regional matters and invited Ambassador Pourchi to visit Sindh to experience its cultural richness.
The meeting concluded with a mutual resolve to maintain close engagement through parliamentary and institutional channels, and to explore practical avenues of cooperation in education, trade, migration management, and people-to-people exchanges, turning goodwill into tangible partnerships.
