Petitions against local bodies act: Court directs AG Punjab to file reply

Lahore: During the hearing of petitions against Local Bodies -Act , Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed Advocate General (AG) Punjab to file the reply till tomorrow.

The petitions against Local Bodies act came up for hearing in LHC under Justice Sultan Tanvir Monday.

Azhar Siddique and Abuzar Suleman Niazi appeared on behalf of PTI, JI and others while DG Law Commission Khuram Shahzad appeared on behalf of Election Commission.

Local government filed its report in the court during the hearing of the case.

The state counsel stated LB polls will be held on party basis. Party ticket can be issued.

The court inquired does it mean the L B polls will not be held on non party basis.

The counsel for the petitioner said if government holds this stance the their case has ended.

DG Law Commission Khurram Shahzad said EC is a constitutional institution. What act government brings we are bound to hold election under it.

80 letters were written to government for holding L B polls during the last 4 years. Punjab government has given January 10 , deadline for election arrangements.

The court while expressing concern over non filing reply by Advocate General Office remarked how the case will go ahead without filing reply.

The hearing of the petitions was adjourned till tomorrow.
