Punjab government announces 90-day remission for prisoners ahead of Eidul Azha

Lahore: A good news has come from Punjab government for prisoners ahead of Eidul Azha as home secretary has issued notification of 90 remission for prisoners ahead of Eid under the directives of Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz.

According to Punjab home department 450 prisoners will benefit from this special concession. 270 prisoners are expected to be released who will celebrate their Eid with their families at home.

As per orders remission in prison has been given under rule no 216 of Pakistan Prison rule of 1978.

Prisoners convicted in cases of special nature will not be able to benefit from this concession.

Prisoners involved in terrorism, sectarianism, rebellion, or anti-state activities or convicted of espionage, murder, rape, drug trafficking, robbery, kidnapping, embezzlement, or causing loss to the national treasury will also not be entitled to benefit from this relief.

Similarly, those convicted of espionage, murder, rape, drug trafficking, robbery, kidnapping, embezzlement, or causing loss to the national treasury will also not be entitled to benefit from this relief.

This step has been taken for the welfare of prisoners and to facilitate their reunion with families during the Eid occasion, authorities said.
