Roof collapse, 1 women, 2 children died

MARDAN: A woman and two children died while three others got injured.

A buffalo died in a roof collapse incident while two houses were fully damaged while 13 houses partially damaged due to heavy rain continued on the second day in Mardan district, a senior female officer said.

Aasma Arif, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Relief and Human rights said that the roof of the room of the house of Mohammad Arif collapsed at Chakaro Pul Muslimabad.

As a result Wife of Mohammad Asif, Arif six years old and Ans 2 years old died while Haris 10 years old, Mohammad Zahir 60 years old and Waris 10 years old got injured.

Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to Mardan Medical Complex (MMC).

Function of the wedding ceremony continued when the roof collapsed.

She added that the heavy rain which continued on the second day badly damaged different parts of the district.

She added that according to the initial reports, the boundary walls of 9 houses were partially damaged while 8 rooms of 7 separate houses collapsed. She added that buffalo of Umar Rahman also died in room collapse incidents. She added that the roof of a house collapsed at Chandar Par Gujjar Garhi however no casualty occurred in the incident. She added that crops on more than 24 kanal lands were damaged at tehsil Takhatbhai. She added that the district administration, WSSCM, TMA, rescue 1122 continued rescue efforts in the district. She added that the heavy rain water entered the houses and shops in different parts of the district. She added that the water was released from the different affected areas through water pumps.

Mayor Mardan Himayatullah Mayar also visited the affected areas and examined the rescue efforts. It may be noted that the heavy rain after interval started in the night of Friday and continued till 2 pm Saturday. The heavy rain water inundated houses and shops and fields in Mardan, Takhatbhai, Rustam, Katlang and Garhi Kapura tehsil. The heavy rain water flooded the roads and streets. Due to the heavy and long duration rain all small and large water channels were flooded in the district. The heavy rain also damaged crops in different parts of the district. District administration officials, rescue 1122, TMA took part in the rescue efforts in the district.
