Islamabad: Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan has assumed charge as the new Spokesperson of Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, taking over the key position on Wednesday.

Ambassador Khan will concurrently serve as Director General (South Asia and SAARC), bringing extensive diplomatic and policy experience to the Foreign Office's media and public diplomacy responsibilities.

He joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in February 2000 and holds a Master's degree in Political Science from the University of the Punjab, Lahore.

During his diplomatic career, Ambassador Khan has held several important positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Director (Africa), Director (USA), Director (Organization and Career Planning), Director (Foreign Service Academy), Director General (Parliamentary Affairs), and Director General (South Asia and SAARC).

His overseas diplomatic assignments have included postings in Syria, Hungary, Germany and Indonesia. He also served as Ambassador of Pakistan to Belarus from October 2020 to December 2024.

Ambassador Khan has participated in several professional training programmes in Pakistan and abroad, including in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, the United States, Germany and Indonesia. He is also a graduate of the National Defence University, Islamabad.

A multilingual diplomat, Ambassador Khan speaks Urdu, English, Arabic and Balti, while also possessing basic knowledge of German, Bahasa Indonesia and Russian.

His appointment comes at a time when Pakistan's foreign policy engagement is focused on strengthening relations with neighbouring countries, advancing regional cooperation and effectively communicating Islamabad's position on key international and regional issues.
