Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) while appointing advocate Suleman Safdar friend of the court has directed him to file report about condition of Imran Khan in jail.
SC allowed barrister Suleman Safdar to meet PTI founder.
During the hearing of appeal pleas against trial in Toshakhana criminal case the court allowed barrister Suleman Safdar to meet Imran Khan in Adiala jail basides appointing him friend of the court. .
A two members bench of SC comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi and justice Shahid Bilal Hassan heard the case.
It is pertinent to mention SC had sought report about condition of Imran Khan in jail on previous hearing.
The court had maintained order cannot be given regarding maintainability of the case without hearing the other respondent.
Attorney General (AG) Mansoor Shah appeared in the court and told we had filed written reply in chamber in the light of August 24, 2023 order. PTI founder was in Attock jail at that time when order was given.
He further told the court we had filed written report in chamber on August 28, 2023. Medical report for the period from August 05 to August 18 was also included with the report.
The Attorney General requested it may please be mentioned in the court's order we had filed report.
The CJP remarked no such order is on the record after August 24, 2023 order upon which SC has expressed satisfaction.
We are appointing Suleman Safdar friend of court and we have full confidence on Suleman Safdar.
SC appointed Suleman Safdar Safdar friend of court and directed Suleman Safdar should go and file report about condition of PTI founder in jail. He should give written report about the facilities available to PTI founder.
The CJP remarked it should be kept in mind Suleman Safdar is friend of court and he should not be made to wait outside jail. It is expected our friend of court will be given access to Imran Khan in jail with respect. If any problem is faced by friend of court then my personal staff officer is available.
Advocate Suleman Safdar inquired is the scope of filing report by me is limited to living condition. Certain apprehensions are there about the health of PTI founder after medical check up of eye.
The CJP directed report regarding living condition be filed in chamber.
At the conclusion of hearing advocate Latif Khosa again came on rostrum and requested he should be allowed to meet Imran Khan.
The court rejected Latif Khosa plea to give permission for meeting with Imran Khan.
The court ordered Suleman Safdar to go to Adiala jail today.
The court adjourned hearing of the case till February 12.
