Peshawar: PTI candidate Sohail Afridi has been elected new Chief Minister (CM) of KP by securing 90 votes. KP assembly met under speaker Babar Salim Swati in connection with election of new CM KP Monday. Opposition boycotted the session and went outside the house. .
The speaker gave ruling regarding acceptance of resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur. PTI leader Muhammad Sohail Afridi was elected as new CM KP. He said I give ruling on the election of leader of the house that what procedure has been adopted is in accordance with the constitution. This is desire of a few people of this country that Sohail Afridi should not become CM. Under clause 8 of article 130 of the constitution Ali Amin Gandapur has filed resignation.
He said under this ruling Ali Amin Gandapur has tendered resignation on October 8. His resignation is expression of his loyalty. On October 11 , Ali Amin Gandapur informed in writing to speaker about his resignation.
Governor confirmed about receipt of Ali Amin Gandapur resignation on October 11. I being speaker think Ali Amin Gandapur has resigned from his office. CM is administrative head of province. There is no provision for acceptance of resignation of CM in the constitution.
Election of CM is my constitutional responsibility and I declare the resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur and election of new leader of the house are in accordance with law and constitution.
There were 4 candidates including Sohail Afridi from PTI, Maulana Lutfur Rehman from JUI-F , Sardar Shahjehan Yousuf from PML-N and Arbab Zark from PPP in the election for new CM KP.
Later The treasury members gave standing ovation to Ali Amin Gandapur when he arrived in the house.
As per media reports, Ali Amin Gandapur while addressing the house said I extend advance congratulations to Sohail Afridi. We want supremacy of law and constitution in the country. What steps I took as CM are all on record. Government succeeds at that time when it is strong.
When we came into power then there were salaries for only 15 days for employees. Opposition may have complaint about not provision of funds to them but I have provided funds to their constituencies. PTI founder has repeatedly said he keeps himself behind for the sake of Pakistan.
He underlined we are with the Muslims wherever they are being subjected to tyranny in the world. Our struggle will continue for people of Pakistan and province.
If we prove ourselves according to the norms of loyalty and dignity then we achieve significant status in the world.
He held PTI founder is rendering sacrifice for nation today. We stand and will continue to stand with him steadfastly. PTI founder is fighting a war for future of our children.
Opposition leader KP assembly Dr Ibadullah said while addressing the house the resignation of Aliu Amin Gandapur has not been accepted so far. The election of second chief minister cannot be held in the presence of one chief minister.
Dr Ibadullah said governor has called Ali Amin Gandapur so that if there is any ambiguity it could be removed. Why are friends in so much haste. When their number are complete then why are they making this matter controversial. This process is illegal. We will not become part of this illegal process.
